SUCCESSFUL FINALS WRAP UP OSBA BASKETBALL SEASON
With the women’s championship starting the night off at Humber College on Wednesday April 12th, both of the teams TRC Academy and Lincoln Prep were coming off upset victories against the top-seeded competition. It was a fast start for both teams, Hanna Hall making 14 points in the first quarter for Lincoln Prep, leading with the score of 26-10 by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was a fresh start for TRC allowing them to catch up, and slow down Lincoln Prep.
Taya Hanson for TRC helped get their team back on track in the second half of the game. TRC contained Lincoln to only 6 points in the entire 10 minutes. TRC managed to tie the game at 45 and the momentum looked to be in their favour. Lincoln was able to shut down their chances of getting ahead with three quick baskets. While the time was quickly running out on the clock, Lincoln Prep was able to gain and maintain separation between the teams’ score. The final score was 71-54 for Lincoln Prep. Hanna Hall was named the inaugural OSBA Finals MVP with an impressive stat line of 24 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals.
Right after the Women’s OSBA championship was finished it lead into the Men’s championship game with the top two teams facing each other. Both Orangeville Prep and TRC Academy had finished the regular season with a record of 18-2 and the only thing separating them was mere point differential. Once the game started both teams showed why they made it to the championship game. By the end of the first quarter, Orangeville had only a five-point lead ending it 24-19.
At the end of the first half it was almost tied 46-45 with TRC leading going into the third quarter. Reclaiming the lead Orangeville came out of the third quarter with five 3-pointers. There was no slowing down for either team, a back and forth battle on the court continued into the fourth quarter. Until the last 18.3 seconds, the score was still 97-97, with a rebound from Matthew Alexander Moncrieffe giving the two-point lead for Orangeville. TRC was unable to find the back of the basket on a final play and Orangeville Prep completed their season as the Champions with a final score of 99-97. Ignas Brazdeikis for Orangeville Prep was named the OSBA Finals MVP with 27 points and 10 rebounds.
