TRANSWAY RANKED #1 IN U13 GIRLS WINS ONTARIO CUP TITLE
NIAGARA, ON – The final game for the D1 U13 Bantam Girls’ 2017 Ontario Cup took place April 9th at Niagara College between Transway and Durham City Basketball Association (DCBA).
Transway managed to get a great head start ending the first quarter with 16 points while DCBA had seven, then dominated the second quarter with Lara Johnson hitting the first three pointer of the game, and Krissy Cooper following with a few great steals and controlled passing around the court. Their defence stood strong against DCBA only allowing three points ending the second frame up 34-10.
DCBA didn’t lose hope going into the third quarter of the game, outscoring Transway 12-7 in the frame, but Transway still took a definitive 41-22 advantage heading into the fourth.
“Something that sets us apart from other teams in our division, is that we always work together as a team, we’re always hustling, we always keep each other going, just our constant want to play and want for the ball is fantastic,” said Transway head coach Ashely Randall. “They’re a good group of girls that make me proud every time they step on the court.”
The final quarter of the gold medal game was thrilling and kept everyone on their toes. Both teams battled hard throughout the entire game, neither team gave up. Transway won the gold medal game with the score of 45-30.
“Very fortunate to be able to work for an organization that is super positive and works very hard for their team and their coaching staff. I am blessed to be coached by my father who is such a mentor and really fortunate to learn from him, and my girls work so hard. It’s my absolute pleasure to be coaching them,” Randall added with the gold medal around her neck.
