INTRODUCTION TO COMPETITION ADVANCED
Ontario Basketball is pleased to announce that level two coach training will be changed this fall. Starting in September 2010, Ontario Basketball will begin offering Introduction to Competition Advanced (ITCA) training. This course will replace level two technical, Comp Intro Part B (theory level two) and the level two practical. Only coaches who already have their level two technical should take the Coaches Association of Ontario's Comp Intro Part B course. ITCA represents the next level in cutting-edge coach training and is developed for those working with athletes in the second train to train LTAD stage. It will also be the mandatory level of certification needed for all head coaches in the U15 Midget, U16 Major Midget, U17 Juvenile and U19 Junior age categories. More information on Introduction to Competition Advanced Introduction to Competition Advanced (ITCA) is a competency-based course. Participants will download pre-task reading materials and complete the table on the last page; then register for a basketball-specific Introduction to Competition Advanced course offered exclusively through Ontario Basketball. Most ITCA courses occur on weekends and consist of a four-hour Friday night and two, eight hour days. Topics covered include basic mental skills, planning for the development of basketball players and how to support the athlete in training. Approximately one quarter of the course will take place in the gym (on a basketball court) so participants must be prepared with appropriate gear. After the clinic, participants will be asked to submit a coach portfolio to a trained Ontario Basketball Introduction to Competition evaluator and arrange for an evaluation. Evaluations are to be arranged through the Ontario Basketball office or through an evaluation clinic. Mandatory certification notice Ontario Basketball will continue to enforce mandatory certification for all competitive coaches. As a reminder all U10 Novice to U14 Major Bantam head coaches as well as assistant coaches in all age categories must be Introduction to Competition certified to start the season. All U15 Midget to U19 Junior head coaches must be level two or Introduction to Competition Advanced to start the season. All coaches have one year from the date of the NCCP clinic to complete the online ethics exam and evaluation. Failure to do so may result in the inability to participate in sanctioned tournaments.
